We’re looking for an Assistant Director Engineering to join the pre-opening team at Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern.

The iconic Hotel Palace Luzern first opened in 1906 and is located in the heart of the city, on the shores of Lake Lucerne. The multi-million-dollar renovation will include the restyling of all guestrooms and suites, the redesign of the public areas, restaurants and bars as well as the landscaping of the outdoor grounds. Following the completion of the renovation, Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern will comprise 146 rooms and suites offering excellent views of the lake and mountains. There will be a restaurant and a bar together with a variety of social and meeting facilities and a spa and fitness room.

The Assistant Director Engineering will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To direct, coordinate the planning, organisation, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects (new, renovation, repair and maintenance) to, and not limited to, building and grounds, plants, machineries and equipment.
  • To ensure that the Fire Life Health Safety Security and Sustainability company standards and HACCP Standards are maintained and carried out. They must be monitored regularly to assist in scoring 100% on the MOHG health and safety audit.
  • To encourage the highest possible standard of environmental management.
  • To perform any other duties and responsibilities as required by the Director of Engineering.
  • To ensure the day-to-day operation of the departments office duties and general administration is completed competently and in a given time.
  • To attend and report to Director of Engineering any actions or action plans that may arise from inspections by the local authorities.
  • To ensure that the Engineering Departments and Hotels policy and Procedures are followed at all times.
  • To report any urgent matters or irregularities to the Director of Engineering immediately.
  • To ensure the daily inventory of department tools and equipment is completed prior to completion of each shift.
  • To support company's philosophy and company culture through the use of Pillars of Legendary Quality Experiences on a daily basis to ensure Guest Satisfaction and the achievement of our Mission Statement.
  • To ensure through effective planning and organizing of systems and procedures, productivity, efficiency and consistent, high level of service is achieved.
  • To ensure that through quality control checklists, constantly training colleagues, monitoring guest and colleague feedback and attention to detail an outstanding service is provided.
  • To carry out daily review of the department's logbooks, record sheets and daily of events to ensure all maintenance requests have been completed and any outstanding items have a next day follow up response.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Assistant Director of Engineering, ideally in Luxury Hotels.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Excellent communication skills spoken and written both in German and English.
  • Previous opening experience is an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of major building systems, power plant, air conditioning system, kitchens etc.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in energy management.
  • Experienced user of office automation applications, including Word, Excel amongst others.
