The Director of Business Development- Japanese (Travel Trade & Corporate) under the general guidance and supervision of the Director of Sales and Director of Commerce, and within the limits of established corporate office and hotel policies and procedures, oversees and directs all aspects of the Japanese market including corporate and wholesale. Responsibilities include but are not limited to oversee day-to-day sales and administration efforts of the Sales Coordinator, with specific responsibility for directing sales, training and implementing action plans set forth in the Marketing Plan. Generates guestroom, apartment, meeting and banquet business in order to achieve related goals assigned by the hotel.

The Role of the Director of Business Development - Japanese & Corporate

    • Analyze market changes and, under the direction of the Director of Sales, implements programs within the sales department to meet these changes
    • To assist the Director of Sales to establish and to implement rate strategies for all market segments
    • Recommends to the Director of Sales direct mail campaigns to reach specific markets
    • To be solely responsible for business development in the Japanese market, including corporate, wholesale, meetings and diplomatic
    • Ensures that appropriate efforts are expended on the solicitation and development of:
      • Active accounts
      • Prospect accounts
      • Suspect accounts
      • Lost accounts
  • Have liaison with Japanese clients and agents, i.e. regular sales calls
    • Greet Japanese VIP guests or groups upon arrival and farewell them upon departure
    • To maximize sales efforts including sales call activities (frequency and type of accounts visited), entertainment and telemarketing through Sales & Catering system reports
    • Ensures that the Fidelio Sales & Catering system is utilized effectively all the time including account and booking management, sales activity updating, tracing, room block review, banquet event order and generation of sales related reports, etc.
    • Is knowledgeable in and implements and maintains effective sales systems and procedures, according to the sales LQE manual
    • In coordination with the Conferences & Meetings team, ensures that group sales leads are logged and reviewed on a weekly basis during the Weekly Group Operations Meeting
    • Conducts quarterly account reviews with Director of Sales & Director of Commerce, and to determine cause of action for lost accounts and non-productive accounts, and look for ways to increase volume from key clients
    • Provides assistance to the operations as it relates to guest services for Japanese clients
    • Meets and greets Japanese VIPs when required
    • Provides recommendations to the management in improving services to the Japanese guests.
    • Attends major trade shows and sales blitz
    • To organize and coordinate all inspections and fam trips with designated sales persons to ensure that all programmes are handled professionally


Preferred Qualifications And Skills

  • Degree or Diploma in Hospitality Management or Business Administration.
  • Minimum 2 years working experience, preferably in Administration or Sales in the hospitality industry or related field.
  • Fluent in Japanese & English both written and verbal, fluency in other languages is an added advantage.
  • Excellent selling skills.
  • Strong communication skills and meticulous.
  • Presentable, outgoing and mature personality.
