We have a rare opportunity for a dynamic and experienced professional to lead the commercial performance of our European flagship property - Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London and the brand new Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, opening in June 2022..

As Director of Commerce you will craft and drive a differentiated sales strategy for both London properties in order to amplify the voice, presence and awareness of Mandarin Oriental in the city. This role is a member of the hotel leadership team and reports to the General Managers of  both properties.

Your success will be measured on your ability to identify and maximise revenue streams from both international and local markets and to formulate and implement appropriate sales and commercial strategies to drive revenues from the trade and industry segments including travel agencies, group, MICE, banqueting and corporate. In this role you will also lead the creation of new commercial growth initiatives and deliver business in high growth sectors. The incumbent will be an ambitious individual who is strategic and passionate about sales, someone who has strong experience working in and opening luxury hotels and growing commercial networks and maximising revenue streams.

You will collaborate extensively with the Director of Revenue Strategy and Director of Consumer Marketing and e-Commerce and provide strategic advice to Food & Beverage and Spa departments to drive maximum revenues across the hotels.

As Director of Commerce you will have the following core responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement differentiated Sales strategies for both London hotels.
  • To propose and align with the General Managers, the Director of Revenue Strategy, the Director of Consumer Marketing and the MOHG Corporate office to implement a strategic rate structure for all market segments of both hotels.
  • To work closely with Director of Revenue Strategy to formulate and implement effective room rate strategies for the different market segments in each London hotel.
  • To collaborate with the Director of Consumer Marketing to formulating an annual Sales and Marketing Plan for each London property.
  • To continually analyse and implement actions to address local and international market changes for both London hotels.
  • To maintain close relationships with key decision-makers both in local and international markets for both London hotels.
  • To work closely with MOHG & Regional Sales Offices to set measurable targets for both London hotels, and ensure results are achieved.
  • To review & propose worthwhile overseas trade and travel functions for the team to support both London hotel’s business strategy as well as the overall image of the hotel and where there is potential for future business.
  • Strategically direct Catering and Conference Service Sales Team in identifying market opportunities for increasing the revenue produced by group meetings, functions and outside catering services.
  • To be responsible for the strategic direction and operation of the Sales, Group and Events Teams in both London hotels.
  • Provide advice and support to Food & Beverage and Spa Department to drive revenues to achieve and exceed their targets in both London hotels.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Revenue Strategy to ensure that a comprehensive system for Group Allocations/ Blocks is established and carefully monitored for both London hotels.
  • To communicate assertively and openly with MOHG Corporate and Regional Sales offices to ensure they are fully briefed on both properties strategies and performance.
  • Meet and entertain influential clients for both London hotels.
  • To represent both hotels on selected travel trips a year.
  • Organise and accompany familiarisation site inspection trips of for both London hotels by major clients.
  • To closely manage the performance of the team for both London hotels, monitoring performance, coaching and directing as appropriate in order to achieve the hotel’s business objectives.
  • To be jointly accountable with the Director of Revenue Strategy and the Director of Consumer Marketing for achieving for both London hotels rooms RevPAR, average rate and occupancy targets, as specified in the Sales & Marketing Plan.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior experience as a Commercial leader in the London Luxury Hospitality market.
  • Strong business acumen and high degree of work ethic.
  • Proven track record of building, developing and motivating a large team.
  • Confident, excellent communication skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Culturally sensitive.
  • Self-motivated, well organised and detail-orientated.
  • Enjoys working in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Able to travel when required.
