To do this job well, you’ll be a details person: someone who walks into a room and takes a second to spot a curtain that needs straightening or a bedsheet that needs smoothing.

Beyond an eye for detail, this role calls for a thoughtful nature: our best Head Housekeepers are those who look for ways to please our guests, sometimes in unexpected ways. (Let’s say they only eat the raspberries from a bowl of mixed fruit. Next time, we’ll leave them a bowl of raspberries or better yet, a raspberry tart.)

About the role

  • To ensure full knowledge of the role and responsibilities as well as the full knowledge and responsibilities of all positions reporting into this position.
  • To prepare and amend the Legendary Service Training manual according to changes within the organisation and guest expectations
  • To manage all costs lines in line with budget and forecast
  • To train the departmental trainers and highlight and correct any required training needs for the business to ensure all standards are adhered to.
  • To ensure that Mandarin Oriental Legendary Quality Experiences are fully implemented and maintained throughout the housekeeping department.
  • To identify and carry out training and development needs among the team
  • To assist on a daily basis the Director of Housekeeping with quality control of all VIP rooms
  • To liaise on a daily basis with joint head housekeeper to ensure efficient communication channels
  • To ensure service delivery in order to meet and exceed our guests’ expectations.
  • To have daily walks through PA, Valet, loading bay, corridors, rooms, pantries to ensure that they are tidy and in good order.
  • To manage where required the butlers to ensure all guest VIP standards are adhered to at all times.
  • To drive the day-to-day Management of the Housekeeping operations.
  • To be familiar with the day-to-day operation on the guest floors, public areas, butler department and storerooms.
  • To ensure that departmental administration is carried out efficiently and timely.
  • To chair daily room attendants and manager meetings/briefings to ensure full knowledge and responsibilities.
  • To lead by example in the checking and the cleanliness of all Butler Suites and long stay guest rooms, as well as daily checking of at least 4 rooms.
  • To carry out annual appraisals on all team members
  • To conduct departmental orientation for all new team members
  • To liaise with the Training and Quality Assurance Manager on departmental training needs
