This position is located at Mandarin Oriental Boston. Holding both the AAA Five Diamond and the Forbes Five-Star awards, Mandarin Oriental, Boston enjoys a coveted location in beautiful Back Bay. With a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, the hotel offers the perfect blend of luxury and style.


It is the mission and intent of this position that the incumbent will take full responsibility for the tasks that are given on all aspects of the Housekeeping operation and maintenance of the Residences service standards. 

The Residences Housekeeper is responsible for the overall cleanliness of all Residences that they are assigned to service. The Residences Housekeeper is equally responsible for delivering all of the Mandarin Oriental Group service standards. 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for providing a five star/five diamond standard of service to all Residents, their families, and their guests.  Although this position is in the Mandarin Oriental Residences, the owners and renters of these units expect the same 5-star/5-diamond level of service associated with the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Boston and globally. 
  • This position is responsible for ensuring that all assigned Residences are cleaned in an efficient and thorough manner while providing 5-star/5-diamond standards in a residential setting.  Private Residences must be cleaned to the specifications of the individual resident owners and/or their family members/guests/tenants.
  • This position will also be responsible for monitoring all Resident property to ensure any maintenance issues are reported, taking note of all Residents’ personal items, and treating them with the upmost care.  Personal privacy and security of the Residents and their property is also required. 

Education and Experience

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in hotel or residential setting preferred.
  • Must ensure that all details of the Residence cleaning are performed to the highest quality standards.  This includes but is not limited to:  Removing trash and recyclables.  Washing bedding, linens, towels, and clothing. Making multiple beds according to an established standard.  Straightening and organizing personal belongings according to the preferences of the Residents.  Cleaning personal items, carpet, tile, wood flooring, walls, glass, appliances, bathroom facilities, kitchen facilities, furnishings, art, and collectables.  Maintaining cleanliness of penthouse rooftop facilities, furnishings, and decor if so directed.
  • Must be able to work in a high paced environment without compromising attention to detail.
  • Ability to clean the assigned Residences effectively and efficiently within productivity standards (based on the size of the individual units).
  • Must have ability to learn and improve on the job performance to increase cleanliness and productivity.
  • Must be able to walk/stand for extended periods.
  • Must offer impeccable, personalized service with discretion for Residents, their families, and guests.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and assist Residents with resolving any challenges to create a positive and memorable experience.
  • Must also be able to effectively communicate with departmental colleagues, Engineering, Security, and the managers of the Residences. 
  • Possess exemplary behavior and customer service interaction skills.
  • Report all safety hazards and suspicious activities to Managers and/or Security.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with a team as well as work individually without constant supervision.
  • Must be punctual and follow a strictly timed schedule. 
  • Ability to multitask in a very high paced environment.
  • Must be flexible with changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and discrete always.

  • Carry on for cleaning supplies.
  • Telephones and smart phones.
  • Dishwasher.
  • Washing machines and dryer as directed.
  • Pressing machine and/or irons and steamers.

Physical demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand for long periods of time, use hands and fingers, reach with arms and hands and to carry and lift items.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Ability to kneel, reach, and bend repeatedly in the minimum of an 8-hour period.
  • Ability to walk for 4 to 5 hours continuously.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 yards.
  • Specific vision abilities are required by this job and include distance vision, close vision and peripheral vision.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may experience temperature fluctuations and moderate to high levels of noise.
  • The colleague will also be exposed to noxious and abrasive chemicals that must be handled properly to ensure the safety of the employee and others.

This job requires the Residence Housekeeper to work with the Residences Housepersons when Resident units are not assigned for cleaning.  Please reference the Residences Housekeeper job description for additional duties, responsibilities and requirements. 

This Residences facility operates seven (7) days a week, twenty-four (24) hours a day. At times it may be necessary to move a colleague from one shift to another if business demands.  This may include but is not limited to changing the number of hours worked to either exceed or decrease below forty (40).
