The Residences Accountant will assist the Director of Residences and the Director of Finance in compiling, analysing & monitoring all transactions and related decisions for the Residences. You will present suggestions for improvements and meaningful solutions to daily accounts activities and billing issues, as they occur. You will be involved in activities related to auditing, billing, collection and receipt of payments for Homeowners Association accounts.

Responsibilities include creating and maintaining manual and computer records of receipts and receivables; performing all of the daily audit procedures necessary to ensure the balance & accuracy of all the financial operations and corresponding records of the Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona; preparation of various monthly reports, assisting in general ledger and month end closing activities.

The Residences Accountant will be responsible for the following:

  • Preparing monthly billing invoices and statements for all Residential accounts; Processing Payments Received
  • Balancing on a daily basis the operating cash account
  • Maintaining accurate up to date reference documentation regarding all Residential transactions
  • Preparing various daily, weekly and monthly reports on a timely basis to provide management with timely & accurate numbers on which to base decisions
  • Investigating and corrects errors and discrepancies discovered in the audit process
  • Ensuring accuracy and timeliness of audit completion
  • Recommending procedural changes where necessary to correct deficiencies
  • Performing monthly reconciliation of balance sheet Accounts and bank Accounts
  • Assisting in the end of month closing activities; prepares and inputs corresponding journal entries accordingly
  • Handling billing requests, confirms subsequent receipt of invoices and assists in handling all billing inquiries
  • Maintaining files of hard copy, back up documentation for outstanding receivables, and paid bills
  • Handling disputed charges, researches and attempts to resolve disputes, provides documentation to confirm accuracy of billing or issues credit as needed
  • Assisting in the preparation of 30/60/90+ day aging report for review by Director of Residences & Controller
  • Assisting in the preparation and transmittal of letters requesting payment to outstanding/overdue accounts

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, Finance, Hospitality or other business-related field of study
  • Two + years’ experience in Hospitality and/or Residential Accounting (A/R, income/night audit position)
  • Proficiency with all Windows Based software Applications.  Experience with SUN system is a plus
  • Strong level of proficiency in Excel
  • Prioritization skills necessary to meet deadlines
  • Effective management, organizational and communication skills
  • Strong Team Player, enthusiastic to learn and accomplish the Finance Department & Mandarin Oriental Overall Goals
  • Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in Spanish and English
