Overview of Position

It is the mission and intent of this position that the incumbent will assist the Assistant Controller in managing, preparing, transmitting & analyzing the bi-weekly payroll for all positions in the Hotel. In addition, this individual will be responsible for overseeing the daily revenue audit in compliance with hotel’s audit procedures. This individual will provide meaningful suggestions for improvements and problem solve, whenever necessary, to assist the Finance Department in achieving their financial & overall Goals.

This position entails maintaining payroll records for all employees in accordance with all Governmental & Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group Standards. The Senior Staff Accountant must ensure adherence to all internal & governmental reporting requirements with respect to Payroll Information & ensure their accuracy. This individual shall prepare, maintain and audit all payroll records, issue employee paychecks and manage all related payroll information.

In addition, this individual will serve in managing the Income Auditor. Responsibilities include overseeing adherence to audits policies and procedures, ensuring timely completion of audit paperwork from the Income Auditor and review of various revenue allocations.

Essential Function

1. Payroll Responsibilities:
• Establishes accurate hard copy and electronic up to date payroll information files for all current and newly hired personnel to provide for proper withholding of required and/or authorized deductions
• Maintains accurate records regarding vacation, sick time and other payroll related benefits, verifies that accruals for same are sufficient to meet liability
• Maintains liaison status between Finance & Human Resources to ensure constant communication of pertinent employee information to ensure accuracy of Payroll records
• Establishes & Maintains security procedures designed to ensure the confidentiality of all payroll related information
• Transmits weekly payroll & status change information to contract payroll processor in a timely manner
• Maintains manual and/or electronic payroll reporting processes, information and equipment daily
• Monitors reporting of tips by employees in designated categories calculates requirements to ensure that amounts reported are sufficient to meet those established by governmental mandate
• Reviews, prepares and transmit payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
• Audits paychecks and related documentation prepared by payroll processor, confirms accuracy of all materials and obtains appropriate approvals prior to distribution of paychecks
• Prepares check request for payroll deposits, deduction remittances, withholding and Social Security tax payments
• Prepares payroll reconciliations, accruals and analytic reports for the End of Month Closing, and as required
• Other duties as assigned

2. Income Audit Supervisor:
• Reviews Income Auditor paperwork to ensure accuracy and adherence to policies and procedures
• Ensures the Income Auditor is in compliance of all (CSAQ) controls for Hotel
• Investigates errors and discrepancies discovered in the audit process
• Ensures accuracy and timeliness of audited daily revenues
• Evaluate Income Auditor’s performance, determine areas of improvement or requirements for advancement, establishes goals, objectives and training needs
• Coordinates month end closing preparations and perform journal entries
• Assists Assistant Financial Controller in monitoring departmental internal controls and creates operating procedures as necessary
• Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or Business-related field of study
  • Two to five years Staff Accountant, Accounting Manager, Paymaster in Hospitality Accounting operations
  • Excellent skills with Windows-based software applications
  • Strong level of Proficiency in Excel
  • Proficiency in computer software, specifically, Payroll/Time and Attendance software (Timesaver & EBS)
  • SMS and Shift 4 experience preferred 
  • Thorough knowledge of, Federal and State withholding requirements, Wage and Labor laws
  • Preference to accounting software Sunsystems, Vision Q&A and Hyperion
  • Ability to assemble, analyze, understand integrated spreadsheets and complex technical information 
  • Prioritization skills necessary to meet deadlines
  • Effective management, leadership, organizational and communications skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
  • Strong team player, enthusiastic to learn and accomplish the Finance Department & Mandarin Oriental overall goals
