About Mandarin Oriental, Rome

Mandarin Oriental, Rome will offer a rare urban retreat set across ten 19th-century villas, surrounded by lush gardens yet only moments from the city’s iconic landmarks. The hotel will feature 108 elegantly designed rooms and suites, many with private terraces or gardens, crafted by renowned designers Gilles & Boissier. With six distinctive restaurants and bars, including a rooftop Mandarin Bar with sweeping city views, the property will blend tranquil residential charm with contemporary Roman sophistication.

The Role

The Assistant Director of Sales plays a key role in driving revenue growth, strengthening market share, and expanding awareness of Mandarin Oriental, Rome across targeted business segments.

Reporting to the Director of Sales, this position supports the development and execution of the hotel's commercial strategy, whilst contributing to the leadership of the Sales team. The successful candidate will actively cultivate key relationships, identify new business opportunities, and represent the hotel within local and international luxury travel markets.

This role requires a commercially driven professional with a passion for luxury hospitality, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to inspire confidence in both clients and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

As Assistant Director of Sales, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients to drive revenue growth and increase market share.
  • Identifying, targeting, and securing new business opportunities across assigned market segments.
  • Supporting the Director of Sales in the implementation of the hotel's commercial strategy and annual sales plan.
  • Analysing account performance, market trends, and competitor activity to identify opportunities and recommend strategic actions.
  • Planning, organising, and participating in sales calls, client meetings, familiarisation trips, site inspections, and hosted events.
  • Representing Mandarin Oriental, Rome at trade shows, industry events, and networking functions.
  • Building long-term partnerships with key corporate, leisure, travel trade, and luxury consortia accounts.
  • Managing lead generation, qualification, conversion, and follow-up to maximise revenue opportunities.
  • Preparing compelling presentations and proposals that communicate the unique positioning and experiences of Mandarin Oriental, Rome.
  • Ensuring all account activity, client interactions, and sales opportunities are accurately maintained within company systems.
  • Collaborating closely with Revenue Management, Marketing, Reservations, and Operations teams to deliver commercial objectives.
  • Acting as a brand ambassador and consistently upholding the values and service philosophy of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

What We Are Looking For

As Assistant Director of Sales, we expect from you:

  • Previous experience in a senior sales or sales management role within luxury hospitality.
  • Strong understanding of luxury travel, corporate, leisure, and key account management segments.
  • Proven ability to develop business opportunities and achieve revenue targets.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to motivate and support team members.
  • Fluency in English is essential; Italian and additional languages would be advantageous.
