The Role

The Banquet Manager is responsible for overseeing the overall banquet and events operation, ensuring the seamless execution of all functions in line with Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service standards. This role leads the planning, coordination, and delivery of exceptional events, creating memorable experiences for guests through precision, personalization, and attention to detail.
Working closely with the Culinary, Catering & Event Sales, and other operational teams, the Banquet Manager ensures operational excellence, financial performance, and team engagement.

 

Key Responsibilities

Event Operations & Service Excellence

  • Oversee and ensure the flawless execution of all banquet events.
  • Plan, direct, and supervise all event setups, service delivery, and breakdown in accordance with brand standards.
  • Ensure all venues are fully prepared, including audiovisual, lighting, décor, and service details prior to event commencement.
  • Coordinate closely with Culinary and service teams to ensure seamless timing and presentation.

Guest Experience & Client Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with event organizers and key clients, ensuring all expectations are exceeded.
  • Anticipate client needs and respond proactively to changes and special requests.
  • Ensure all events reflect Meeting by Mandarin Oriental (MbMO) promises and Legendary Quality Experience standards.
  • Address guest feedback and complaints effectively, ensuring prompt resolution and service recovery.
  • Drive the creation of memorable “wow moments” to enhance guest satisfaction and loyalty.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the banqueting team to deliver consistent service excellence.
  • Oversee scheduling, training, and performance management of colleagues and casual labor.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to grooming, presentation, and professional standards at all times.

Communication & Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with Catering & Event Sales, Culinary, Front Office, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  • Lead and participate in daily and weekly event meetings to ensure full alignment.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external partners, suppliers, and contractors.

Financial & Business Performance

  • Manage and monitor banquet revenues, costs, and profitability, ensuring achievement of financial targets.
  • Oversee accurate billing, forecasting, and financial reporting of all events.
  • Optimize labor costs and productivity, including management of casual workforce.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth, upselling, and cost efficiencies.

Brand Standards & Quality Assurance

  • Uphold Mandarin Oriental’s luxury standards, aligned with Forbes Travel Guide and LQA expectations.
  • Ensure all banquet venues maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation.
  • Continuously review guest feedback and operational performance to drive improvements.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with hotel policies, safety standards, and local regulations.
  • Safeguard confidential information and uphold data privacy requirements.
  • Promote a safe, secure, and inclusive environment for guests and colleagues.

 

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in Banquets or Events within a luxury hotel environment, with at least 2–3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Proven expertise in event operations, service excellence, and guest engagement.
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple large-scale events in a fast-paced environment.
  • Service-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and cultural awareness.
  • Professional demeanor and polished appearance aligned with luxury brand standards.
