Mandarin Oriental, Maldives is a forthcoming ultra-luxury private island resort located on the Bolidhuffaru Reef in South Male Atoll, just a 20-minute speedboat journey from Velana International Airport. About the Role
We are seeking a Director of Finance to lead all aspects of the hotel’s financial operations. This role is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial information to support decision-making, while ensuring robust internal controls, asset protection, and full compliance with local regulations and MOHG standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial controls and accounting procedures in line with MOHG policies, GAAP, and local regulations, including hotel management contract requirements
- Drive process improvements and innovation to enhance financial systems and efficiency
- Provide timely and accurate financial reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making
- Actively contribute as a key member of the hotel’s executive team, supporting the General Manager and leadership team
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational performance through analysis and reporting
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes, with clear recommendations for improvement
- Review and ensure realistic and achievable financial forecasts and business plans
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard hotel assets
- Ensure adequate insurance coverage in accordance with management contract requirements
- Oversee cash flow management, funds, and financial assets
- Establish and enforce credit and collection policies aligned with MOHG standards
- Manage and coordinate internal and external audits, including statutory reporting requirements
- Oversee preparation and filing of statutory accounts across relevant legal entities
- Act as Data Protection Officer, ensuring compliance with GDPR and completion of annual audits
- Lead, develop, and manage the finance team to ensure capability, continuity, and performance
- Perform additional duties as required by the General Manager or MOHG corporate office
Experience & Qualifications
- Extensive experience as a Financial Controller or equivalent within hospitality finance operations, ideally within the luxury sector
- Proven track record managing budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred)
- Ongoing professional development in finance, accounting, or related disciplines is advantageous
Technical & Leadership Skills
- Strong knowledge of financial regulations, compliance, and internal controls
- Ability to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with overall business objectives
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing finance teams
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and integrated spreadsheets
- Proven ability to prepare full financial reporting packages (e.g., P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English (written and spoken)
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; familiarity with systems such as Opera, SUN, Delphi, Hyperion, and Micros is preferred
