About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston within the Food & Beverage department in Boston, Massachusetts, the Director of Food & Beverage will be responsible for the overall day to day operation and long-term outlook of the Food & Beverage Division, including In-Room Dining, Banquets, and Culinary. The Director of F&B will have operational and financial responsibilities for the overall Food & Beverage Division. He/she will oversee the overall organization, ensuring the implementation and consistency of the standards of service and execution of policies and procedures.

The Director of Food & Beverage reports to the Hotel Manager.

As Director of Food & Beverage, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide leadership and support for all Food & Beverage colleagues.

  • Model the company’s culture, vision, mission and core values at all times.

  • Hire, train, motivate, discipline, direct, and supervise the work of the colleagues and managers in all Food & Beverage Departments.

  • Develop and maintain all training programs on a continual basis to ensure a high degree of professionalism and adherence to service standards.

  • Maintain budgeted labor cost guidelines.

  • Assume responsibility for shift supervisory duties on a regular basis, especially with VIP functions.

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining divisional standards in order to maintain the property’s 5-star status.

  • Ensures operations managers develop a departmental orientation program and colleagues receive the appropriate new hire training to successfully perform their job. Ensures managers cross-train internal guests to support successful daily operations. Ensures all new hires receive an Onboarding Training Plan (OTP) and the Plan is utilized by managers.

  • Actively solicits colleague, utilizes an open-door policy, and reviews colleague satisfaction to identify and address concerns. Encourages participation in annual college experience survey. Holds managers accountable for developing action plans associated with survey results and ensures that necessary changes are implemented.

  • Ensures hotel policies are administered fairly and consistently, disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed according to People & Culture guidelines and supports all hotel directives.

  • Participate in establishment of a marketing and public relations plan for Food & Beverage.

  • Respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

As Director of Food & Beverage we expect from you: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role; experience in luxury hospitality is strongly preferred.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze complex financial data and translate results into operational action.

  • Proven ability to lead and manage change in a high-volume environment.

  • Effective management, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Complete administrative proficiency. Knowledge of purchasing, inventory controls, supplies and equipment.

  • Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language.

  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of the shift; ability to frequently push, pull, and lift carts or items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Desirable:

  • College degree in Hospitality Management or a similar field.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $120,000-130,000 annually.
