The Role
The Director of Security & Safety is responsible for establishing, implementing, and leading all security, safety, emergency preparedness, and loss‑prevention programs during the pre‑opening, opening, and operational phases of Mandarin Oriental Makati.
This role ensures that all colleagues, guests, visitors, and physical assets are protected in accordance with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group (MOHG) standards, Philippine regulatory requirements, and best‑practice risk management protocols.
The Director plays a strategic leadership role in crisis management, business continuity planning, fire and life safety compliance, security technology setup, and coordination with local government and law enforcement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre‑Opening Responsibilities
- Develop the full Security & Safety Strategic Plan for pre‑opening.
- Conduct risk assessments, threat analyses, and security surveys for the hotel, residences (if applicable), loading dock, parking areas, and perimeter zones.
- Work with Engineering and Projects to review security system design, including:
- CCTV placement and configuration
- Access control systems
- Key management system
- Fire detection and alarm systems
- Emergency communication tools
- Establish all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for security and safety.
- Develop a Crisis Management Plan and Business Continuity Plan aligned with MOHG guidelines.
- Recruit, train, and onboard the pre‑opening Security team.
- Liaise with city authorities (Police, BFP, Barangay, LGU) to ensure compliance and coordination.
- Prepare the hotel for all pre‑opening audits, including MOHG corporate audits.
2. Operational Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all daily operations of the Security & Safety department.
- Monitor property conditions to ensure a secure and hazard‑free environment for guests and colleagues.
- Implement systems to prevent theft, fraud, and loss of assets.
- Oversee the monitoring of CCTV, access control, alarms, and emergency systems.
- Ensure robust incident reporting, investigation, follow‑up, and documentation.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, including:
- Fire exits
- Kitchens and back‑of-house areas
- Guest floors
- Loading dock
- Hazard-prone areas
- Ensure compliance with:
- MOHG Fire, Life, Health & Safety (FLHS) standards
- Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) of the Philippines
- City permits and safety certifications
- Lead regular fire drills, first-aid training, and crisis simulations for all colleagues.
- Act as the Chair/Deputy Chair of the hotel’s Safety Committee.
- Assist with VIP protection planning, guest‑related security, and event‑based risks.
3. Leadership & People Management
- Provide clear leadership, direction, and development opportunities to the Security team.
- Maintain strong working relationships with all hotel departments.
- Champion a culture of safety awareness and preparedness across the property.
- Lead by example in professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and guest service.
4. Crisis & Emergency Response
- Serve as a core member of the Crisis Management Team.
- Coordinate during emergencies, ensuring rapid and effective response.
- Act as hotel liaison with authorities during investigations or critical incidents.
- Maintain updated emergency contact lists, communication trees, and evacuation plans.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years of Security leadership experience, preferably in luxury hospitality.
- Pre‑opening experience is highly preferred.
- Background in law enforcement, military, risk management, or corporate security is advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Security technology (CCTV, ACS, alarms)
- Fire and life safety systems
- Risk assessment and crisis management
- Familiarity with Philippine laws on safety, security, data privacy, and OSH.
Certifications (preferred)
- Certified Security Professional (CSP)
- First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer
- Fire and Life Safety certification
- OSH Practitioner/Officer (from DOLE)
