About the job
The Fire Life Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring full compliance with the Fire Services Act 1988, Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL 1984), and all requirements set by the Corporate, while maintaining a safe environment for all guests, employees, and stakeholders.
As Fire & Life Safety Manager you will be responsible for the following duties:
Regulatory and Corporate Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with all fire safety regulations under Malaysian law including UBBL 1984 and Fire Services Act 1988.
- Act as the main liaison with BOMBA Malaysia for inspections, audits, and certifications.
- Ensure validity and renewal of Fire Certificate (FC) and related statutory documents.
- Coordinate and close all findings from BOMBA and Corporate inspections within required timelines.
Fire Safety System Management
- Ensure all fire protection systems are installed, operational, and maintained (fire alarm, hose reel, hydrant, smoke control systems, emergency lighting).
- Coordinate periodic testing, inspection, and servicing in accordance with corporate requirements and manufacturer standards.
- Maintain proper documentation of all maintenance and certification records.
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Develop and maintain the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) in compliance with BOMBA and Corporate guidelines.
- Conduct regular fire drills and evacuation exercises as required by law.
- Lead coordination during fire incidents and emergencies until BOMBA or authorities take command.
- Ensure clear evacuation routes, assembly points, and emergency signage at all times.
Training & Awareness
- Conduct mandatory fire safety training for all employees, including emergency procedures and evacuation protocols.
- Train Fire Wardens/Emergency Response Team (ERT) and ensure competency readiness.
- Promote continuous fire safety awareness across all departments.
Inspection, Audit & Reporting
- Conduct regular internal fire safety inspections and risk assessments.
- Prepare reports for management and regulatory authorities including BOMBA and Corporate audit reports.
- Ensure all non-compliance issues are documented, tracked, and resolved.
Coordination with Authorities & Contractors
- Liaise with BOMBA officers during site inspections and approvals.
- Work closely with Engineering, Security, and external fire safety contractors.
- Ensure all fire safety upgrades or modifications comply with BOMBA approval requirements before implementation.
As a Fire & Life Safety Manager, we expect from you:
Educational Background
- Diploma/Degree in Fire Safety, Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or related field.
- Certified Fire Safety Officer or equivalent qualification (preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in fire safety management, preferably in hotel or commercial buildings.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian fire safety laws, UBBL 1984, and BOMBA requirements.
- Good leadership, communication, and emergency response capability.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.
