The Role

The General Cashier is responsible for the daily handling, control, and reconciliation of all hotel cash transactions, ensuring accuracy, security, and compliance with Mandarin Oriental’s financial policies. As part of the pre‑opening Finance team, this role supports the establishment of cash handling procedures, internal controls, and systems to ensure a smooth transition into full operations.

The General Cashier plays a critical role in safeguarding hotel assets while supporting operational efficiency and service excellence.


Key Responsibilities

Cash Handling & Control

  • Receive, store, and disburse approved cash floats to operational departments in accordance with established policies.
  • Conduct daily cash counts and reconciliations for all revenue centers and outlets.
  • Prepare and balance daily cash summaries, ensuring accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Safeguard cash, checks, and other negotiable instruments in a secure manner at all times.

Banking & Deposits

  • Prepare and process daily bank deposits in a timely and secure manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of all cash movements, deposits, and withdrawals.
  • Coordinate with the Finance leadership team on cash flow requirements and scheduling of deposits.

Pre‑Opening & Systems Setup

  • Assist in establishing cash handling SOPs, internal controls, and documentation during the pre‑opening phase.
  • Support system testing and setup related to POS, PMS, and cash management processes.
  • Participate in pre‑opening training for operations teams on cash handling standards and procedures.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure adherence to Mandarin Oriental financial policies, audit requirements, and statutory regulations.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and explanations.
  • Immediately report discrepancies, shortages, or irregularities to Finance leadership.

Collaboration & Service Support

  • Work closely with Front Office, Food & Beverage, and other departments to resolve cash‑related discrepancies.
  • Maintain professional and courteous communication with internal stakeholders, reflecting Mandarin Oriental’s service culture.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Hospitality Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a General Cashier or similar cash handling role, preferably in a hotel environment.
  • Pre‑opening hotel experience is an advantage.
  • Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and discretion.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
