Scope of Position

As Sales Executive – Groups & Events, you will work closely with the Director of Commercial Strategy, Sales leadership and the wider Sales & Marketing team to drive group and events business and achieve or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue targets.

The role focuses on generating, developing, and converting business across corporate groups, meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions, weddings, social events, and other group and event segments.

You will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing and maintaining strong relationships with corporate clients, event planners, agencies, Destination Management Companies (DMCs), Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs), and other key partners. The role requires a proactive approach to business development, account management, sales calls, client entertainment, site inspections, proposals, and market development while positioning Mandarin Oriental, Muscat as a preferred luxury destination for groups, meetings, and events.

Responsibilities

  • Understand, communicate, and adhere to all corporate and hotel policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure all business activities and decisions comply with the MOHG Code of Conduct and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Fully understand and support Mandarin Oriental, Muscat’s People & Culture strategic policies.
  • Support all learning and development activities as required.
  • Safeguard confidential information and personal data relating to guests, customers, colleagues, and the hotel.
  • Support and adhere to all policies and procedures relating to Safe, Sound and Sustainable at Mandarin Oriental.
  • Ensure compliance with the MOHG Social Media Policy.
  • Act as a hotel and brand ambassador at all times.
  • Carry out any additional duties requested by management related to hotel operational activities.
  • Generate, develop, and maintain group and event business within assigned markets and segments through proactive sales activities.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with corporate clients, event planners, agencies, DMCs, PCOs, wedding planners, and other key group and event partners.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities to increase group room revenue, event revenue, banquet revenue, occupancy, and overall market share.
  • Conduct face-to-face sales calls, telephone calls, client entertainment, presentations, and site inspections.
  • Implement and execute Groups & Events sales objectives, strategies, and action plans to achieve and exceed assigned targets.
  • Manage assigned accounts and continuously evaluate their production, potential, and performance.
  • Proactively solicit new group, meeting, conference, incentive, wedding, and social event opportunities.
  • Follow up on group and event enquiries and opportunities in a timely manner to maximize conversion.
  • Prepare and present proposals, offers, and presentations in line with client requirements and the hotel’s commercial strategy.
  • Conduct detailed site inspections and showcase the hotel’s guestrooms, restaurants, ballroom, meeting rooms, and event facilities to prospective clients.
  • Work closely with the Conference & Events team to ensure a smooth transition of confirmed business and accurate communication of client requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of Groups & Events market trends, booking patterns, customer preferences, demand periods, and competitor activities.
  • Monitor competitors’ event facilities, group offerings, packages, promotions, and market activity and report relevant threats and opportunities.
  • Develop strong and productive relationships with existing business partners while actively identifying potential new clients and accounts.
  • Ensure negotiated agreements, rates, packages, and selling strategies are adhered to and maximize upselling opportunities whenever possible.
  • Conduct regular account reviews and recommend actions to increase group and event production from key accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information regarding assigned accounts, sales activities, leads, opportunities, definite business, and production in the relevant systems in accordance with MOHG standards.
  • Respond to client and partner requests within the time frames established by the company.
  • Participate in sales activities, roadshows, trade events, exhibitions, sales missions, networking events, and relevant industry functions as required.
  • Attend major events in the hotel and city as requested by the Department Head.
  • Cross-sell Mandarin Oriental properties worldwide whenever appropriate and identify opportunities to generate business across the Group.
  • Support customer loyalty and Mandarin Oriental brand standards by delivering service excellence throughout the customer journey.
  • Build strong relationships with customers, guests, and colleagues to understand their needs and provide effective solutions.
  • Participate in client entertainment activities with the Sales Department.
  • Conduct joint sales calls with the Sales team as required.
  • Establish and maintain files and databases for Groups & Events accounts and assist Sales leadership in maintaining the account management system.
  • Attend weekly and monthly departmental meetings and prepare relevant account performance updates, conversion information, market intelligence, and client feedback.
  • Understand the overall Groups & Events market, including competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand, and key developments within the local and international MICE market.
  • Work closely with Conference & Events, Revenue, Reservations, Food & Beverage, Banquets, Culinary, Front Office, Marketing, and other relevant departments to ensure opportunities are effectively converted and client expectations are met.
  • Support the optimization of event space, group room blocks, and revenue opportunities in collaboration with Revenue and Conference & Events teams.
  • Handle guest or client concerns professionally and support the resolution of any disputes when required.
  • Maintain an excellent working relationship with all colleagues and departments across the hotel.
  • Set a positive example and consistently demonstrate Mandarin Oriental standards and values.
