The Laundry Manager is responsible for the overall management and operation of the hotel’s laundry services, including guest laundry, linen processing, and uniform care. This role ensures the highest standards of cleanliness, quality, and efficiency in all laundry operations, in line with Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service standards.

In a pre-opening environment, the Laundry Manager is instrumental in establishing systems, workflows, and quality standards while building a high-performing team to ensure seamless operations from opening day.

As Laundry Manager, you will be responsible for the following duties:

Pre-Opening & Setup

  • Lead the setup and commissioning of the laundry facility, whether in-house or outsourced
  • Assist in planning layout, workflow, and equipment placement for optimal efficiency
  • Support procurement and installation of laundry machinery, systems, and chemicals
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all laundry processes
  • Establish linen flow processes (soiled collection, washing, finishing, distribution)

Laundry Operations Management

  • Oversee daily laundry operations, including washing, drying, pressing, folding, and distribution
  • Ensure proper handling of guest laundry, staff uniforms, and hotel linens
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and fabric care
  • Ensure timely delivery of clean linen and uniforms to all departments
  • Monitor productivity, turnaround times, and workflow efficiency

Linen & Uniform Management

  • Establish and manage linen and uniform inventory systems
  • Ensure proper sorting, tracking, and rotation of linen to extend lifecycle
  • Monitor linen losses, damages, and replacement requirements
  • Ensure proper care and maintenance of staff uniforms

Guest Laundry Services

  • Ensure high-quality and timely guest laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing services
  • Monitor guest satisfaction and ensure service recovery for any issues
  • Ensure accuracy in billing and handling of guest items
  • Maintain confidentiality and proper handling of guest garments

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, train, and supervise laundry colleagues
  • Establish staffing schedules based on occupancy and operational demands
  • Provide ongoing training in laundry techniques, equipment use, and safety
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and service excellence

Financial Management & Cost Control

  • Prepare and manage the laundry budget, including labor, utilities, and chemicals
  • Monitor revenue and control expenses such as water, electricity, detergents, and maintenance
  • Optimize resource usage while maintaining quality standards
  • Track and manage linen replacement costs and lifecycle efficiency

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Ensure all laundry machines and equipment are maintained and functioning efficiently
  • Coordinate with Engineering for preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades or replacements
  • Ensure proper usage and care of all laundry equipment

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Maintain strict quality control for washing, finishing, and presentation of linen and garments
  • Ensure compliance with Mandarin Oriental standards and audit requirements
  • Conduct regular inspections and performance checks
  • Maintain proper documentation, records, and reporting

Safety, Hygiene & Sustainability

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards
  • Monitor proper handling and storage of chemicals and detergents
  • Promote environmentally sustainable practices (water conservation, energy efficiency)
  • Ensure safe working conditions for all team members

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, and F&B for linen requirements
  • Ensure timely supply of clean linen to guest rooms, outlets, and events
  • Communicate effectively regarding linen shortages, delays, or issues
  • Work with Purchasing and suppliers for laundry-related needs

As Laundry Manager, we expect from you: 

  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in laundry operations within a luxury hotel environment
  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience required
  • Pre-opening experience is highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of laundry operations, equipment, and fabric care
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
