About the Role
The Learning & Development Manager is responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering all learning, training, and development initiatives for the pre‑opening and ongoing operations of Mandarin Oriental, Makati. The role plays a critical part in embedding the Mandarin Oriental service culture, developing leadership capability, and ensuring that all colleagues are fully prepared to deliver legendary service from opening day and beyond.
Working closely with the Director of People & Culture, Corporate L&D, and hotel leadership, the Learning & Development Manager ensures learning strategies are aligned with MOHG brand standards, luxury service expectations, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Pre‑Opening Learning Strategy & Readiness
- Develop and implement the pre‑opening Learning & Development master plan, aligned with opening timelines and operational readiness.
- Conduct training needs analysis in partnership with department heads to support pre‑opening, opening, and post‑opening requirements.
- Coordinate closely with MOHG Corporate L&D to ensure full compliance with brand training standards and frameworks.
- Ensure training facilities, materials, systems, and schedules are ready prior to hotel opening.
Brand, Culture & Service Excellence
- Plan and deliver Mandarin Oriental brand orientation, values immersion, and service culture programs for all colleagues.
- Ensure consistent understanding and application of Mandarin Oriental’s service philosophy across all departments.
- Act as a culture champion, reinforcing desired behaviors, service standards, and colleague experience expectations.
Technical & Operational Training
- Coordinate departmental technical training in collaboration with department heads and subject‑matter experts.
- Support the development and tracking of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and job‑specific training plans.
- Ensure all mandatory, statutory, and safety‑related training is completed prior to opening and maintained thereafter.
Leadership Development & Talent Growth
- Support leadership onboarding, supervisory capability development, and management training programs.
- Implement MOHG leadership development initiatives at property level.
- Coach leaders on training effectiveness, on‑the‑job development, and performance enablement.
- Support succession planning and talent development initiatives in collaboration with People & Culture.
Learning Systems, Evaluation & Reporting
- Manage learning systems, training records, and compliance tracking.
- Measure and evaluate training effectiveness using feedback, performance data, and MOHG learning metrics.
- Prepare learning progress reports for the Director of People & Culture and executive team.
- Continuously improve learning programs based on feedback, audit findings, and operational needs.
Ongoing Learning Culture
- Promote continuous learning through blended learning approaches, on‑the‑job training, and coaching frameworks.
- Encourage a strong learning mindset that supports career development and service innovation.
- Support colleague engagement initiatives through learning and development activities.
Pre‑Opening Focus
- Ensure all colleagues complete required brand, service, and operational training prior to opening.
- Support opening rehearsals, simulations, and service readiness exercises.
- Be flexible, highly organized, and hands‑on in a fast‑paced and evolving pre‑opening environment.
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Hospitality Management, Education, or a related field.
- Learning & Development certifications or adult education qualifications are an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of Learning & Development or training experience, preferably within luxury hospitality.
- Prior hotel pre‑opening experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with international brands and multicultural teams.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and hospitality service training.
- Excellent facilitation, presentation, and coaching skills.
- Highly organized with strong planning and project management capability.
- Passion for service excellence and colleague development.
- Strong stakeholder‑management and communication skills.
- Proficient in learning systems, Microsoft Office, and reporting tools.
- Able to thrive in ambiguity and high‑pressure pre‑opening environments.
