About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group Corporate Office in Hong Kong, the Solution Architect & Engineer – Sustainability Technology is responsible for designing, building, testing and deploying an end-to-end Sustainability Data Management System using Smartsheet and Replit, or similar technologies.

The role will establish a solution covering the full process of collecting, validating, approving, calculating and reporting sustainability data, including carbon accounting and emissions reporting. The Solution Architect & Engineer – Sustainability Technology reports to the Senior Manager, Sustainability.

This is an initial three-month fixed-term contract role focused on the successful design and delivery of a scalable sustainability data management solution. An immediate start is preferred, and there may be potential for extension to support Phase 2 and subsequent development and enhancement work.

As Solution Architect & Engineer – Sustainability Technology, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Design a scalable, secure and maintainable application architecture and flexible data model for current and future sustainability metrics, calculations and reporting requirements.
  • Build sustainability data collection processes for energy, water, waste and other operational metrics, including automated validation, data-quality checks, approval workflows and submission tracking.
  • Develop a carbon emissions calculation engine covering, at a minimum, Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.
  • Create dashboards, analytics and management reporting, with appropriate evidence retention, historical data migration, role-based access, auditability and traceability.
  • Develop workflows, validation rules, calculations, interfaces and user experiences, and design API-based integrations for relevant upstream and downstream systems.
  • Take hands-on responsibility for configuration, development, testing and deployment, and produce clear technical documentation to support governance, maintenance and future development.

As Solution Architect & Engineer – Sustainability Technology, we expect from you:

  • Proven experience designing and developing end-to-end, workflow-driven business applications, with the ability to move between solution architecture, detailed technical design and hands-on delivery.
  • Experience creating robust and scalable data models, validation and approval processes, calculation logic, dashboards and management reporting.
  • Hands-on software development or application configuration experience using Smartsheet, Replit, modern web technologies, relational databases, business intelligence tools, APIs or equivalent low-code, rapid application development, workflow or cloud platforms.
  • Ability to apply appropriate security, access controls, data governance and auditability while making pragmatic technical decisions within a compressed delivery timeline.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with business stakeholders to translate sustainability and operational requirements into practical working solutions.
  • Experience with sustainability, environmental, social and governance reporting, carbon accounting, emissions reporting, multi-site data collection or enterprise data-quality and governance solutions is preferred.
  • Experience building an initial solution that can evolve into a broader enterprise platform is preferred.

We’re Fans. Are you?

Please note: This position is offered on an initial three-month fixed-term contract basis. The role is based in Hong Kong, and a hybrid working arrangement may be possible, with a strong preference for regular on-site presence.
