Anna Jarinova has worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years with a deep expertise in the area of spa & wellness. Anna has just returned to the Group to take on a brand-new challenge at the Mandarin Oriental, Doha.

You have just assumed the Director of Spa position at Mandarin Oriental, Doha. What are you looking forward to in this role and how does it differ from your other roles?

In MO I was meeting very interesting and inspirational people, business professionals and guests from different countries. I got in touch with Oriental heritage and together with my previous experience from USA, Mexico and Europe, in Doha I am now teased to experience and learn new culture, get to know its people, their habits, fascinating history… and maybe even a little bit their language.

I am looking forward to work again with my colleagues all over the world, this is what I was missing in Slovakia. To be able to share and discuss new spa and wellness trends, to exchange our experiences and opinions. To be challenged in a right way to prove what can be achieved with the focus and dedicated work. I just loved our regular Spa directors conferences, where we could share best practices from all properties and even with different departments and learn a lot. Those would give us new energy, inspiration and motivation.

Also I truly hope that I can bring to the team my passion and experience and will enrich this amazing spa and build up on everything that has already been done and exists. To create strong, confident  and engaged team that will share their passion for wellness with our guests and fellow colleagues.

 

You have worked for different brands in various industries but you have decided to return to Mandarin Oriental, why is that?

It has been the decision that I took together with my family, they want to see me happy. :)

In at the end of 2013 I left Mandarin Oriental, because after 13 years of working and living abroad I was offered to bring my experience, knowledge and know how to Slovakia, my beautiful country. It was always my dream – to create the unique Slovak spa and wellness brand that would be the best in Slovakia and well known as well abroad. Despite I loved working with Mandarin Oriental, it was hard to say no at that time. But lately I felt like my job was done and I did not feel challenged anymore; I felt like I am stagnating in my professional life. I realized that I need to broaden my horizons again and where better then with Mandarin Oriental, that according to me is undoubtedly world leading hotel spa brand.

One very important factor, that helped to make my decision may sound like a cliché, but in Mandarin Oriental I always felt like I am part of the family. As colleagues we cared for each other and even in very difficult situations we stand by each other. I always felt like I have been taken care of no matter what.

And last but not least is that I really admire about MO, that they (now we :) ) as a brand are living up to the promise, daily acting according the core values with the aim to achieve the vision. MO does not loose the direction.

 

What is your most memorable career moment with Mandarin Oriental?

I treasure many memorable moments with Mandarin Oriental, moments that were not only important in my professional, not personal life and brought me a real friends for life.

I would like to mention few of them what I consider to be ones of the most significant. One was when we gain the prestigious 2009 Crystal Award for Europe in Readers' Choice Award by Spa Finder. Imagine being the best spa in the continent selected by our guests, guest who were visiting all different luxury spas over the world, they choose us. Everybody in the Spa and hotel felt very proud and honored.

Another moment, which meant a very much for me was when our spa received Golden Fan in 2012. Small spa with huge improvement in all levels of operation and guest satisfaction. These kind of moments encourage you to strive further.

For me personally very satisfying moment was the launch of new local experiences with Czech brand Mcely Bouquet. Finally not only beautiful MO star Spas like Bangkok or Hong Kong would have a  luxurious treatments and product that would define their wellness and healing history, but it was as well Prague with its Central European spa tradition. New local concept that is successful and our guest continue to enjoy. And what is very important is that therapists are in love with it.
