About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental New York within the Food and Beverage in New York City, the Banquet Manager is responsible for managing the overall Banquet operation. The Banquet Manager reports to the Director of Banquets.

As Banquet Manager, you will responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide leadership and support for all Banquet colleagues, trains, evaluates and schedules Banquet colleagues in accordance with the standards of the company policies and guidelines.
  • The ability to directly oversee the actual set-up and service of contracted functions by giving specific menu information to the servers, by coordinating the timing of the events with the Executive Chef / Banquet Chef and by assigning functions to the Assistants and Banquet Servers to insure the success of the function.
  • The ability to hire, train, motivate, discipline, direct, and supervise the work of the colleagues in the Banquet Department.
  • The ability to develop and maintain all training programs on a continual basis to insure a high degree of professionalism within the colleagues, the ability to schedule all colleagues to maintain the service standards of Mandarin Oriental while operating within budgeted labor cost guidelines.
  • The ability to maintain daily housekeeping program to include storage and operational areas and colleague appearance.
  • The ability to assume responsibility for shift supervisory duties on a regular basis, especially with VIP and “at cost” functions.
  • The ability to organize and orchestrate any last minute changes or details to functions.
  • The ability to post all contracted function sheets and gives instructions to Assistants, Banquet Servers to insure the success of the function.
  • The ability to constantly monitor the colleague’s appearance, attitude, and degree of professionalism to insure their strict adherence to Mandarin Oriental’s standards of quality service.
  • The ability to communicate directly with the hosts of functions and go over the details of the function.

As Banquet Manager, we expect from you: 

  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language, willing to work a flexible schedule and holidays.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of banquet and catering operations, have an in-depth knowledge of food and preparation, have an in-depth knowledge of all beverages
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar position, preferably in luxury environment
  • Have the ability to handle guest requests in a detailed manner
  • Must have excellent attention to details, and extensive service knowledge
  • Excellent motivational skills.
  • Excellent leader and trainer.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Salary and Benefits:

  •  Salary $75,000 to $78,000 yearly plus banquet points-
  • A competitive benefits package, including health, dental and vision, 401(K), etc
