About the job
The Commis is an entry-level position in the kitchen, responsible for assisting senior chefs in food preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring high standards of hygiene and food safety. The role provides foundational training and hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment.
As a Commis, you will be responsible for the following duties:
Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food items according to standards.
Follow instructions from senior chefs and support kitchen operations as required.
Wash, peel, chop, cut, and cook food items as part of meal preparation.
Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, workstations, utensils, and equipment.
Ensure proper storage and labeling of food, including FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
Comply with food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations at all times.
Help with receiving and storing kitchen supplies and ingredients.
Assist in minimizing food waste through proper preparation and portion control.
Participate in kitchen cleaning and closing duties.
Learn and develop cooking skills and knowledge through hands-on experience.
