About the job

Based at the San Clemente Palace within the Engineering Department in Venice, the Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and operation of the property’s physical infrastructure and technical systems. This role ensures all facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with brand standards and legal regulations. The Director of Engineering reports to the Hotel Manager.

As Director of Engineering, you will responsible for the following duties:

  • Lead and manage the engineering team, ensuring effective scheduling, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance plans for all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including regular inspections and audits.
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers for outsourced maintenance, repairs, and renovation projects.
  • Monitor energy consumption and support sustainability initiatives to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Manage the engineering budget, controlling costs while maintaining service quality.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies, minimizing downtime and guest inconvenience.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support refurbishments, new installations, and technical upgrades.
  • Ensure the safety and functionality of all technical systems to provide a secure and comfortable environment for guests and colleagues.

As Director of Engineering we expect from you: 

  • Proven experience managing engineering operations in luxury hospitality or large-scale facilities.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance systems.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Sound understanding of safety, environmental, and building regulations.
  • Effective problem-solving and organizational abilities.
  • Experience managing budgets and supplier relationships.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Flexibility to handle emergencies and work varied shifts.
  • Fluency in English; other languages are advantageous.
  • Degree or technical certification in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
