About the job

Based Mandarin Oriental Jakarta, the Porter is responsible for the overall guest satisfaction by creating a delightful arrival and departure experience, which includes escorting guests to their destination, handling delivering and storing of guests luggage, communication of information and guest requests and familiar with and able to demonstrate the guest room technology, but not limited to Front Office. The Porter reports to the Concierge Manager.

As Porter, you will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Guest Experience & Service

  • Offer a warm and courteous welcome to all guests upon arrival with LQE arrival experiences.
  • Escort guests to their rooms and assist with luggage promptly (delivery within 8 minutes).
  • Retrieve luggage upon check-out and ensure proper recording of items.
  • Deliver packages, messages, and facsimiles within 10 minutes of receipt.
  • Provide attentive farewells, ensuring assistance until the guest vehicle has departed.
  • Respond politely and efficiently to guest inquiries, complaints, and requests.

2. Operational Duties

  • Maintain cleanliness and daily inventory of the luggage storeroom.
  • Ensure safe and proper handling of guest luggage at all times.
  • Arrange and update guest transportation.
  • Deliver or collect items from outside the hotel on guest request.
  • Support Front Office and Concierge colleagues in coordinating guest requests.

3. Professional Standards

  • Maintain excellent grooming, hygiene, posture, and a professional attitude.
  • Address all guests by name appropriately.
  • Be knowledgeable of hotel facilities, services, room products, and F&B outlets.
  • Maintain discipline and follow all policies and procedures as per the Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure compliance with Safe & Sound (security and health standards) at all times.
  • Record Luggage activities such as Luggage In & Out, Temporary Storage, Long Term Storage. 

4. Training & Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend departmental training sessions and briefings.
  • Support colleagues and promote teamwork within the Front Office.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head Concierge, Reception Manager, or Front Office Manager.

As Porter, we expect from you:

Educational Background 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel & Tourism Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Diploma in Hotel Management or Tourism (acceptable for entry-level positions if combined with relevant experience). 

Experience 

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in hotel, preferably within the hospitality industry.  

Skills & Competencies 

  • Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule and holidays.
  • Be a self-motivator and motivator of others
  • Work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
  • Be able to relate to all levels of guests and management.
  • Have excellent communication and organization skills
  • Be able to consistently delight and satisfy our guest
  • Have the ability to handle guest requests in a detailed manner
  • Have excellent attention to details and service knowledge

Technical Proficiency 

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications including Hotel Management System
  • Familiarity with HMS or similar platforms is an advantage.
