About the job

Based at Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, within the Security Department, the Security Assistant Officer is responsible for the practical application of security measures ensuring the safety and well-being of Guests and Associates, as well as the protection of the Company’s property from loss or damage. The role reports to the Security Manager.

As Security Assistant Officer, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Apply all security procedures to provide a safe and secure environment for Guests, Associates and Company assets.
  • Maintain Mandarin Oriental Barcelona standards at the highest level, always delivering prompt and courteous service.
  • Assist the Security Manager in all aspects of the department and undertake delegated responsibilities in their absence.
  • Respond directly to access control and panic alarm activations.
  • Conduct daily hazard patrols and regular hotel patrols with emphasis on public areas and emergency exits.
  • Record all incidents in Guardteck and prepare witness statements and incident reports.
  • Investigate, administrate and report accidents.
  • Carry out random departmental audits for key control.
  • Deliver security awareness training to colleagues when required.
  • Report defects in building, plant or equipment following hotel procedures.
  • Attend statutory fire training and all training deemed appropriate by the Head of Department.
  • Be part of the hotel pool rescue, first aid and AED team and attend relevant training.
  • Carry out any other reasonable request as directed.

Legal and operational knowledge

The role requires a working knowledge of the following legislation:

  • Hotel Proprietors Act
  • Innkeepers Act
  • The Licensing Act
  • Theft Act
  • Offences Against the Person Act
  • Criminal Damage Act
  • Civil Trespass
  • Fire Precautions Act
  • Health and Safety  
  • Food Acts

As Security Assistant Officer, we expect from you:

  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent hotel product knowledge.
  • High level of responsibility and reliability.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-focused attitude within a multicultural environment.
  • Commitment to Guest and Employee satisfaction.
  • Fluent English.
  • First Aid, AED and Fire Safety training or willingness to obtain.
  • Private Investigation, Criminology degree or Director of Security TIP.
  • 2 years’ experience in similar role.
