About the Role
The Director of Catering & Events is a key member of the pre‑opening leadership team for Mandarin Oriental Makati. This role is responsible for creating and leading the hotel’s Catering & Events strategy, establishing service standards, developing the commercial pipeline, and overseeing the successful execution of all social and corporate events.
With a blend of commercial acumen, creative vision, and operational excellence, the Director of Catering & Events ensures that every event—whether an intimate celebration or a large‑scale corporate function—reflects Mandarin Oriental’s renowned elegance, craftsmanship, and impeccable service.
Your responsibilities
1. Pre‑Opening Leadership & Commercial Readiness
- Develop the Catering & Events commercial pre‑opening plan, including pricing, sales strategy, forecasting, and market positioning.
- Establish event packages, menus, and product offerings in collaboration with Culinary, F&B, and Operations.
- Create SOPs, service guidelines, documentation standards, and workflows aligned with Mandarin Oriental brand expectations.
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, Revenue Management, and Operations to ensure alignment in all pre‑opening activities.
- Lead the recruitment and training of the Catering & Events team, instilling a culture of excellence and luxury service.
2. Sales & Business Development
- Drive revenue through proactive sales efforts targeting corporate, social, wedding, diplomatic, and luxury lifestyle segments.
- Develop strong client relationships with key event planners, corporations, social influencers, luxury wedding partners, and community organizations.
- Conduct site inspections, presentations, and client meetings representing the brand with poise and sophistication.
- Partner with the Director of Commercial Strategy to optimize segment mix, pricing strategy, and sales targets.
- Lead contracting and negotiation processes for all catering and event bookings.
3. Event Planning & Execution Excellence
- Oversee the end‑to‑end planning and delivery of all events to ensure flawless execution.
- Collaborate closely with Banquet Operations to deliver tailor‑made experiences in line with guest expectations and brand standards.
- Lead pre‑event meetings and ensure detailed event orders are created with accuracy and clarity.
- Maintain strong coordination with Culinary, AV/Tech, Rooms, and other key departments to ensure seamless event flow.
- Serve as the brand ambassador during high‑profile events and VIP occasions.
4. Financial Management & Forecasting
- Develop and manage departmental budgets, revenue forecasts, and cost controls.
- Ensure profitability through margin oversight, efficient staffing, and appropriate pricing strategies.
- Analyze event performance, conversion rates, and market trends, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Revenue Management on displacement analysis and optimal space utilization.
5. Team Leadership & Culture Building
- Build a high‑performing Catering & Events team capable of delivering luxury event experiences.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance development opportunities for team members.
- Foster a collaborative, guest‑focused environment across sales, planning, and on‑site event teams.
- Champion Mandarin Oriental’s culture and values throughout the department.
6. Brand & Guest Experience Stewardship
- Ensure all event touchpoints reflect Mandarin Oriental’s signature elegance, attention to detail, and personalized service.
- Uphold and reinforce brand voice, design language, and experiential standards within all event offerings.
- Curate and maintain elevated partnerships with luxury vendors, floral designers, décor houses, and entertainment providers.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in Catering & Events, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Experience in luxury hospitality required; pre‑opening experience strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to drive revenue, build client relationships, and execute large‑scale and high‑profile events.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire teams and uphold service excellence.
- Deep knowledge of the Metro Manila events market, including weddings, corporate events, and luxury social clients.
- Sophisticated communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Highly organized, creative, and detail‑oriented with strong commercial instincts.
