Mandarin Oriental, Hangzhou is a forthcoming five-star luxury hotel set within the prestigious Westlake 66 mixed-use development, near the UNESCO-listed West Lake. Scheduled to open in 2026, the hotel will feature 194 elegantly designed guestrooms and suites, complemented by four restaurants and bars, extensive meeting and event spaces, and world-class wellness facilities including a signature spa, fitness centre, and indoor pool. Blending contemporary sophistication with cultural heritage, the hotel is designed as a serene retreat in one of China’s most vibrant cities, offering seamless access to Hangzhou’s key business districts and leisure attractions.

As Director of Marketing Communication, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Leading all pre-opening and launch marketing and communications activities, including brand introduction strategy, announcement phases, media engagement, launch campaigns and opening events, to ensure strong awareness and positioning from day one.
  • Overseeing the creation and management of the brand identity for the hotel and all its outlets
  • Overseeing the production of all brand identity materials, collateral, and the development of new promotional materials according to the MO guidelines
  • Overseeing Marketing & Communications budget planning
  • Planning all phases from briefing to implementation of the hotel’s annual advertising plan; coordinating with the MO advertising department on all matters related to creative and media planning
  • Designing and executing the PR strategy for the hotel to ensure its positioning as one of the top hotels in the destination across local, national, and international media, showcasing its main USPs and highlighting MO’s competitive advantages
  • Building a strong working relationship with MO’s international PR network and the MO Corporate Communications team to maximise reach of initiatives
  • Ensuring regular exposure for the hotel in local and international media through print, online, radio, and television via proactive and reactive PR actions
  • To manage the hotel’s Press Office:
    • Maintain strong relationships with local and international media
    • Develop and write newsworthy and creative press releases to pitch to appropriate media
    • Create bespoke itineraries and host all local and international media visits
    • Keep the press kit and photographic library updated
  • Developing, managing, and monitoring the hotel’s social media channel strategy
  • Working with the global digital marketing team to identify and execute paid social media campaigns aimed at both global staying guests and local audiences for F&B and Spa
  • Liaising with the global digital marketing team to coordinate PPC, meta search, and email marketing campaigns to increase direct digital bookings to the hotel, ensuring social media activity aligns with paid campaigns
  • Planning, organising, and overseeing all photography and videography sessions for the hotel to ensure the right assets are available for media, digital, and collateral use. This includes major collateral photography, food and beverage shots, and press release photography
  • Ensuring up-to-date, brand-appropriate website copy for the hotel, liaising with relevant corporate and property colleagues to update the site regularly
  • Overseeing web traffic analysis to create and execute a successful digital marketing strategy
  • Providing local expertise on hotel seasonality, upcoming events, local attractions, and competitor activity to optimise returns on paid search marketing
  • Acting as the primary digital and e-commerce contact for the hotel when new website, mobile, or social media capabilities are implemented
  • Leading and developing the hotel’s marketing and communications team

As Marketing Communication, we expect from you:

  • Luxury Pre-opening Expert: Extensive leadership experience within a luxury hotel brand, including a proven track record in pre-opening operations
  • Effective time management, communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in Chinese  and English
  • High proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
