We are looking for a Director of Security to join our pre-opening team at Mandarin Oriental Hangzhou, China
Mandarin Oriental, Hangzhou is a forthcoming five-star luxury hotel set within the prestigious Westlake 66 mixed-use development, near the UNESCO-listed West Lake. Scheduled to open in 2026, the hotel will feature 194 elegantly designed guestrooms and suites, complemented by four restaurants and bars, extensive meeting and event spaces, and world-class wellness facilities including a signature spa, fitness centre, and indoor pool. Blending contemporary sophistication with cultural heritage, the hotel is designed as a serene retreat in one of China’s most vibrant cities, offering seamless access to Hangzhou’s key business districts and leisure attractions.
As the Director of Security, you will be responsible for the practical application of security measures ensuring the safety and wellbeing of Guests and Associates, as well as protection of the Company’s property from loss or damage. To manage and control the Fire, Life, Health, Safety and Security function for the hotel, through the effective development and implementation of appropriate security and risk management policies. To provide a safe and secure environment for colleagues and guests.
The Director of Security will be responsible for the following:
- Develop and implement effective procedures to ensure that the hotel’s and Company’s property are protected whilst also providing a safe environment for colleagues and guests.
- To manage and lead the Security Team, liaising with external agencies as appropriate.
- To ensure that effective procedures and records are in place to ensure that the hotel is protected in case of fire and other such emergencies.
- Carry out relevant safety and security audits in hotel to ensure that all procedures are being followed, taking corrective action as required.
- To be responsible for the Health and Safety Committee.
- To deal with any incidents involving the police or other law enforcement agency, maintaining good relationships with them.
- Ensure that hotel’s Health and Safety manuals are up to date, monitor health and safety and keep all appropriate records to ensure the company complies with all relevant legislation.
- Maintain a good working relationship with contractors in relation to special projects.
- Carry out appropriate management training and communication to ensure that all Hotel managers are aware of legal obligations relating to FLHSS.
- Develop and maintain a sound working knowledge of related FLHSS hardware appropriate to the business, be responsible for workings and maintenance of such equipment.
- Manage and implement Mandarin Oriental's training plan within security areas to ensure consistent service delivery and colleague development.
- Maintain high colleague satisfaction in all operational areas by actioning issues of concern as measured by colleague satisfaction surveys.
- Ensure effective communication throughout the security department and ensure excellent inter-departmental communication systems are in place with key areas.
- Contribute to the production and implementation of annual budget plans and long-term strategic plans.
What are we looking for?
- Extensive security experience in Luxury Hotels preferred
- Strong knowledge of Security processes and Sound & Safety, Fire & Evacuation procedures
- Excellent organizations skills and ability to work effectively under pressure managing priorities
- Willing to work a flexible schedule including morning, afternoon, overnight, weekends and holidays.
- Able to work in a high-pace and dynamic operation.
- Able to work together with other colleagues in a pleasant, friendly and helpful manner.
- Excellent communication skills in Chinese and English
