About the job
Based at the Mandarin Oriental in Canouan, the Director of MICE leads the commercial strategy for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) across One Canouan Group luxury hospitality portfolio on island including Mandarin Oriental Canouan, Canouan Estate Resort and Villas and SOHO House, Canouan. The Director of MICE develops and executes global and local strategies to attract, retain, and grow large-scale business events. This role oversees the entire event lifecycle—from proactive sales and contract negotiation to operational execution—ensuring maximum revenue and alignment with brand standards. The role is based in the US.
As Director of MICE, you will be responsible for the following duties:

Strategic Planning and Business Development: Develop and implement comprehensive sales and marketing strategies to attract and grow MICE business in Canouan. This includes identifying new business opportunities, markets, and revenue streams.

Sales and Revenue Growth: Lead the MICE sales teams to achieve revenue targets (e.g., room occupancy, food & beverage, venue usage). This involves budget management, forecasting, and negotiating high-value contracts.

Market Analysis and Representation: Conduct market research, analyze trends, and adjust offerings to meet demand. The director represents the One Canouan Group at major local and international trade shows, conferences, and networking events to build industry contacts.

Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key corporate clients, meeting planners, event agencies, and stakeholders to ensure repeat business and exceptional service delivery.

Operational Collaboration: Work closely with operations, marketing, and finance teams to ensure that all events are delivered successfully, on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction.

Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and motivate the regional MICE and events team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring alignment with the company's brand strategy and standards
As Director of MICE, we expect from you:

Excellent communication skills in all aspects: verbal, written and non-verbal, with fluency in English

Revenue Generation: Achievement of total group revenue and average daily rate (ADR) targets.

Conversion Rate: Success rate of proposals converted into signed contracts.

Sustainability Metrics: Traceability of carbon footprints and adherence to "green" event certifications.

Customer Recovery Rate: Effectiveness in resolving issues and maintaining loyalty following event challenges.

Pipeline Health: Growth and quality of leads within the CRM
Experience and education

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Experience: 7+ years in MICE or corporate hospitality sales, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.

Certifications: Professional designations such as CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) or CITP (Certified Incentive Travel Professional) are highly preferred.

Technical Acumen: Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce) and revenue management tools.

Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, public speaking, and "hunting" attitude for new business development.
