About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich within Executive Office, the Hotel Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, service quality and guest satisfaction while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. The Hotel Manager reports to the General Manager. 

The Hotel Manager will be responsible for the following duties: 

  • Acting on behalf of the General Manager during his absence to the effect of running the hotel on a day-to-day basis. Constantly keep the General Manager informed of emergencies in the hotel, employee problems and guests’ complaints.

  • Review the daily financial performance and attend to all matters pertaining to the well being and efficient operation of the hotel.

  • Motivate and direct the hotel operations in ensuring a professional and customer focused culture.

  • Anticipate business and operations needs of the Hotel. Plan appropriate marketing positioning and strategies of the Hotel F&B.

  • Evaluate marketing effort with the Director of Marketing in order to maximize the potential of the Hotel.

  • Constantly seeks new procedures, methods and policies, which could improve business results and service and propose to the General Manager.

  • Prepare and monitor the Hotel’s financial objectives and operations budget with the respective department heads.

  • Submit annual budget of various departments to the General Manager for approval and is responsible for controlling and attaining the approved budget throughout the financial year with the Financial Controller and other E.C.

  • Attend department heads meeting and other meetings concerning the hotel operations and future planning.

  • Perform regular inspection of hotel areas to ensure the Hotel attaining a deluxe hotel standard.  Should any discrepancy arise, rectification will be coordinate with department heads concerned.

  • Is aware of the Leading Quality Assurance (MOQA, LQE), FORBES and LRA standards and the key role that departments play in delivering these standards. Ensuring full compliance at all time with internal standards auditing required.

  • Compare the service quality with other competitive hotels and inspire the department heads to come up with appropriate recommendations to the General Manager.

  • Ensure corporate policy and internal department procedures are always applied.

  • Motivate the department heads and employees in providing personalized service to guests so as to gain an advantage over other hotels in the same category.

  • Act as a liaison between the General Manager and employees and ensure their internal communication is fluid between management and employees. Responsible for maintaining a friendly and healthy work environment.

  • Maintain good relations and communication with all department heads in order to ensure an efficient and harmonious operation.

  • Conduct performance appraisal with assigned department heads and manage their performance.

  • Drive FLHSS&E, to ensure hotel full compliance. Drive the Business Continuity Management program, to ensure hotel safety and full compliance to the standards

  • To attend special hotel functions. Great VIP guests and regular guests to promote the hotel’s goodwill.

As Hotel Manager we expect from you:

  • Extensive Hotel Experience within Hospitality operations within a luxury setting.

  • Good understanding of Chinese culture.

  • Ability to assemble, analyse, understand integrated spread sheets and complex technical information.

  • Prioritization skills necessary to meet deadlines.

  • Strong presentation skills and effective management, leadership, organizational and communications skills.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken in English and German.

  • Mandarin language proficiency is required.
